Ishøj By Center
A part of the local history
Ishøj By Center opened in 1977 and has since then been an integrated part of everyday life in Ishøj. On the occasion of Ishøj By Center's 40 year anniversary in 2017, Torslunde-Ishøj Lokalhistoriske Forening and Ishøj Lokalhistoriske Arkiv (associations on local history) took a closer look at the centre and the history of the local area.
The unique location of the centre as an integrated part of the city's public transport centre and main street means that the centre is the heart of the city. This also means that you cannot write the history about Ishøj without mentioning Ishøj By Center.
In the spring of 2018, the centre celebrated its 40 year anniversary with an almighty party. The party went on for days and in connection with the festivities, Torslunde-Ishøj Lokalhistoriske Forening and Ishøj Lokalhistoriske Arkiv took a closer look at the 40-year history of the centre. They found a large number of photos that the centre association collected and presented at an exhibition in the centre. Here, young and older people could study the many photos and stories from when granny was young at the opening of the centre in 1977.
The exhibition was a huge success and illustrated the development of the centre from a few local shops to the centre it is today with more than 50 shops, 1,500 parking places and almost 7 million visitors a year.
