Friis Shoppingcenter in Aalborg reopens

After nearly two years of renovations, Friis opens its doors to a brand new shopping centre with Magasin as the anchor tenant. The shopping centre features new decor, a new facade and a new way of thinking about retail.

New strategy
After taking over the administration and operation of Friis Shoppingcenter in 2015, Danske Shoppingcentre laid out an ambitious new commercial strategy for the facility.

“The return of Magasin to Friis Shoppingcenter is a sign that the shopping centre is keeping up with the progress and development of the city and customers. Magasin strengthens the shopping centre’s profile as the preferred shopping destination in Aalborg. The city is growing and developing in new and exciting ways, and shopping needs are evolving. We are now meeting these needs with a brand new shopping centre,” says Property Manager Eva Handest on behalf of Danske Shoppingcentre, which owns Friis Shoppingcenter.

Finn Sture Madsen, head of division for Centre Management and Key Accounts at DEAS, says: “Friis Shoppingcenter held enormous potential. Therefore, it was important to find a shop concept capable of attracting customers from throughout the region – and Magasin was the preferred anchor tenant.”

Another important component of Danske Shoppingcentre’s strategy is a focus on families and young people who seek experiences, options and a broad diversity of shops. This element of the strategy resulted in an optimised mix of shops and the addition of new eateries.

New design
The renovation of Friis Shoppingcenter has established a brand new look, including a new facade and new entrances. The old carousel doors have been replaced with more majestic double doors and large glass panels. And with the new facade in golden brown copper alloy cladding, Friis now features a more modern and elegant design.

“Customers appreciate good design and good decor. It’s all part of the shopping experience. In the renovation of Friis Shoppingcenter, it was important to establish a holistic design that elevates the shopping centre’s look, both inside and out,” says Property Manager Eva Handest.
